Designed for Demanding Environments
The OTL63 Grapnel Launchers portable design and compatibility with different projectiles allow the launcher to support a range of specialist maritime and urban access requirements. The system is compatible with the Mark 3 Folding Grapnel, a three-pronged, spring-loaded titanium grapnel, and the Messenger Line Projectile, designed for deploying lighter lines over greater distances. These options, together with compatible rope and ladder systems, allow the equipment to be configured around different access requirements without relying on a single fixed arrangement.
Pneumatic Technology and Performance
Unlike launchers that rely on explosive propellants, the OTL63 operates using compressed air. The launcher is supplied with a removable 500cc air cylinder and incorporates an internal 120cc air chamber, allowing multiple launches from a single charged cylinder. Integrated safety features are designed to prevent over-pressurisation of the cylinder and launcher chamber. This reusable pneumatic arrangement provides a practical alternative to single-use propellant-based systems.
Performance varies according to the selected projectile, rope diameter and equipment configuration. Under laboratory test conditions, the OTL63 has achieved maximum ranges of up to 120 metres with a 3mm line, 45 metres with an 8mm rope and 35 metres with an 11mm rope. The system is also compatible with Fibrelight ladders, with a maximum deployment height of 20 metres.
Configurations and Equipment Options
The OTL63 Grapnel Launcher can be purchased as individual components or supplied in two complete configurations: the Tactical Set and Special Forces Set. The Tactical Set provides a compact equipment package incorporating the launcher, folding grapnel, rope, charging equipment and essential accessories. The Special Forces Set offers a more comprehensive arrangement, including additional air cylinders, grapnels, projectile components and a Fibrelight ladder, providing a broader selection of equipment within a single package. Both sets are supplied in protective Peli cases with fitted foam interiors to keep the launcher and its associated components securely organised during transportation and storage.
